A short chat with Justine Mosley about the Dorset FA and the future of Firmitude

Justine Mosley: ‘everyone puts their all into it and makes opportunities for others’

Dorset FA development manager Justine Mosley speaks on successes in women's football, development in the game and partnering with Firmitude to create better opportunities.

When Firmitude partnered with the Dorset FA, it was obvious that the two would be able to help one another in expanding opportunities within the women’s game. These possibilities have really come to fruition, as I found out when I spoke to development manager Justine Mosley. She gave me a deep view into the work going on within the Dorset FA.

There are several areas of working within the Dorset FA that Justine values the most; mentioning the ‘opportunities to go to the game she loves’ as well as the ‘staff and volunteers that work there’. For Justine, it’s all about creating opportunities for as many people as possible and everyone puts their all into the work to make sure that is possible.

Justine then explained to me how she sees the progression of women’s football in the Dorset area. ‘There will be a massive increase of 19 teams next season, along with a big under 17s division. Then there is the bottom end work of the league, an under 7s division that has gone from strength to strength. Women's game progress is a little slow, but there is steady growth from grassroots to the big divisions.’

When asked about the impact of Firmitude, Justine was keen to highlight the importance of having the two organisations working together. ‘Firmitude has been massive in the recreational side of it - anyone is welcome. The flexibility they offer is great, and the progression path is there for players to go to more serious teams.’

With women’s football having experienced so much success recently, Justine was keen to highlight some of her personal highs over this exciting period. She highlighted the ‘growth of the girls game in the Dorset youth league’, but was also keen to mention the ‘massive engagement in schools and communities’.

This growth and increase in engagement has brought a plethora of opportunities to people in the community. ‘Players could be socially isolated so it opens up opportunities’.

With women’s football riding such a wave at the moment, along with people like Justine working hard behind the scenes, the future looks extremely bright. Women’s football should continue to grow year on year - and so should Firmitude.
